The Father

How do we feel the Father’s love?

He is always there. He always loves us. That’s what we’re told.

But I just realised that maybe I don’t always feel it because I don’t actually turn to look at him.

You’re a toddler and you’re learning to walk. Your father stands behind you to urge you to go forward.

When you fall, he is there to catch and soothe you. He is there to urge you to continue trying. Soon you walk without help.

Eventually you grow up. You don’t need help walking anymore. You walk further and further away.

If you never turn around, you may not realise that he is still there, letting you go.

When we fall again as adult ‘children’, we turn around and ask for help, and we realise he was there all along.

He didn’t force us to stop walking and stay close because he loves us and wants us to learn and grow.

Like the prodigal son, sometimes we have to be lost before we think of turning to him.

And when we finally turn back, we realise the Father never stopped being there for us.

He wants you to turn back, so you understand his love. So you can turn to him and be as a child again.

God can only be a Father to us if we are willing to be children to him.

After a sharing session in church today where we discussed about The Father’s love.
